Dr. Sharon Sullivan, assistant professor of mathematics, and a group of Catawba College math majors visited North Rowan Elementary School on March 14 to celebrate National Pi Day. Their goal was to get younger students interested in math by introducing them to the number pi and its everyday applications.
The Catawba group visited Miss Reece's first-grade class, made arts and crafts with the students there, and ate pie. Pictures of their visit can be found at the Catawba College web site www.catawba.edu under the mathematics department home page.
Participating Catawba College students included senior Hannah Davis of Williamsburg, Va.; sophomore Sarah Reeves of Pilot Mountain; junior Thomas Presley of Stantonsburg; junior Charles Walters of Cleveland; and junior Katie Herge of China Grove.
