In Tune magazine has for the sixth consecutive year included Catawba College as one of the nation's Best Music Schools. Catawba was one of only 51 institutions included in the magazine's listing of The Best Music Schools 2014.
Catawba offers a bachelor's degree in Music with concentrations in Music Business, Music Education, Music Performance, Popular Music and Sacred Music, and offers a bachelor's degree in Musical Theatre.
In Tune's Best Music Schools 2014 special feature was included in the October 2013 edition of the magazine. In this special feature, music professors from the Best Music Schools give students advice on getting into the music school of their choice. Although some music schools expect prospective students to understand music theory, to sight read, and to play standards from different repertoire, Catawba offers alternative auditions.
Dr. David Fish, Catawba's Music Department Chair and Director of the College's Music Business program, talks about the informality of Catawba's music audition process in the aforementioned special feature. He says: "We just ask that each student play two or three pieces that contrast with one another in some way. It's great if some or all are originals. The student does not need to read music or have any formal training."
In Tune is a classroom magazine for music students, grades 7-12. It was founded in 2003 by veteran Billboard, Forbes and Business Week publishing executive Irwin Kornfeld, former Musician, EQ and Gig magazines publisher Angelo Biasi, and Grammy-winning music producer Will Edwards.
