The North Carolina State Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) held the 62nd Annual State Leadership Conference in Charlotte April 7-9. Officers and members from the Catawba College chapter of PBL attended the conference and competed in many of the statewide business competitions.
Chapter Advisor, Dr. Pamela Thompson, attended with Catawba PBL Chapter President Morgan King, officers Lauren Hardison, Melissa Edwards, Andrew Chambers, and Bradley Carlton, along with other members from the chapter.
Catawba's PBL Chapter received an award for the 4th largest chapter in the state. Honors from the statewide competitive events include:
Individual Event Winners: Melissa Edwards (Cary) - 1st in Cost Accounting and 2nd in Accounting for Professionals Lauren Hardison (Yadkinville) - 1st in Computer Concepts Morgan King (Troy) - 2nd in Project Management Mary Scott Norris (Salisbury) - 3rd in Marketing Concepts Jimmy Vang (Salisbury) - 4th in Networking Concepts Ashlee McNabb (Salisbury) - 5th in Marketing Concepts Andrew Chambers (Advance) - 6th in Accounting Principles
Team Event Winners: 1st in Integrated Marketing Campaign - Ashlee McNabb, Malen Erikisdóttir (Reykjavik, Iceland), and Mary Scott Norris
Students receiving 1st and 2nd place in events automatically qualify for the national competitions to be held at PBL Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia in June of this year. Dr. Thompson stated, "This was our largest delegation to this annual event and our students had the opportunity to network professionally, attend leadership conferences, and compete with students from colleges and universities all over the state of North Carolina. I am so proud of all of the students that participated and of this PBL chapter - we have had an outstanding year and look forward to the PBL Nationals in Atlanta this summer."
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)-PBL is the largest business career student organization in the world with over 240,000 high school, college and professional division members. FBLA-PBL is recognized by the Association for Career and Technical Education, International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education, National Association of Parliamentarians, National Association of Secondary School Principals, National Business Education Association, and the U.S. Department of Education.
FBLA-PBL's National Awards Program recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. Through state-based competition at the spring State Leadership Conferences, students compete in events testing their business knowledge and skills. Top state winners then are eligible to compete for honors at the National Leadership Conference each summer.
