Students and other members of the Catawba College community packed 488 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes on Nov. 12 at a packing party held in the Cannon Student Center on campus.

The shoebox project will continue through next week and students will be packing additional shoeboxes on Tuesday, Nov. 17 during lunch. This is the fifth year that Catawba students have packed shoeboxes at a packing party and the 17th year for Catawba's participation in Operation Christmas Child.

The Operation Christmas Child (OCC) shoebox project sends gift-filled shoeboxes to needy children around the world. Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have received simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child.

Those who have packed a shoebox on their own may bring their shoebox to the Catawba College Student Affairs Office in the Cannon Student Center before Nov. 20 and it will be included in the collection pickup.

For more information on the OCC project and suggestions for items to pack in the shoeboxes, go to www.samaritanspurse.org and click on Operation Christmas Child.
