As everyone gathered back at Catawba after Thanksgiving break, a few people had some great things to recall about their break and how they spent it.
Twenty-one-year-old senior and communications major Katie Barbee of Salisbury recapped how she spent her break.
Even though she did have the luxury of having her wisdom teeth pulled over the break that did not stop her from enjoying some quality time and great food with her family.
According to Katie, "My Thanksgiving break was great. I got to spend a lot of quality time with my family and loved ones. I also got to meet the new addition to my family, Angela – that's my cousin's newest little girl whom they adopted from the Philippines a few months ago."
Even though Katie stayed in Salisbury for her break, she mentioned that her large family gathering was held at her aunt's house where they joined in a family prayer before diving into their meal. They also spent time catching up and then engaged in some horse play with the younger ones in her family.
When asked about her most memorable moment of her break, Katie said, "It was definitely meeting Angela and spending time with her. It was the first time she came to visit my family since my cousin brought her home. Talk about a little sweetheart!"
Katie added that she was thankful for the blessings in her life, for the opportunities she has received, as well as for her amazing and supportive family and friends.
Junior Theo Shepard of Southport shared some information about his break as well. He mentioned that before he could enjoy his Thanksgiving holiday, he tried to finish up on some homework and get in some work study hours before departing campus. He said that although he and his family live in Southport, they wanted to celebrate their Thanksgiving up North this year with some family and friends. Therefore, they all took a trip to Connecticut; this involved him getting up at 2:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning to make it to the airport.
Theo said a tradition for his family is to go around the table and have everyone share stories about what they are thankful for. This year, however, "because there were so many of us, we had two different tables and had to do the sharing after the meal by circling around in the kitchen."
He said his most memorable moment of the break "was talking to my 18-year-old cousin about his frustrations and worries about making friends in college next year and not being awkward — especially with troubling females!
"We talked for at least three hours on Thanksgiving night after everyone had gone to bed."
Twenty-year-old junior and communications major Jay Koontz of Lexington also enjoyed his Thanksgiving break. He shared that he spent most of his break on campus trying to catch up on sleep and homework. According to Jay, "What I'll recall most about this past Thanksgiving was that for the first time in a few years I didn't fight with any of my family members! We all got along!"
Jay concluded by saying, "I really loved Thanksgiving this year not only because I got to be around my family, but I got to catch up on sleep, homework, and I also hit the stores the day after Thanksgiving and got some sweet deals! I bought a hammer priced at 20 dollars for 4 dollars, but I had to argue with a lady over it for about 10 minutes to get it for that price!"
