Catawba College will host a Political Rally for Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Governor Mike Pence at approximately 4 p.m. Monday, October 24, just outside of the Robertson College-Community Center. Catawba President Brien Lewis noted that the campus being selected as the site of the Rally should in no way be seen as an institutional endorsement of a particular candidate. Rather, the campus is simply providing a forum as part of its ongoing role "as a marketplace of ideas."
"One of the most cherished attributes of being a college campus is that civil discourse and divergent opinions can be shared and discussed in an intellectual environment that both breeds and welcomes respectful and thoughtful conversation," Lewis said.
The Catawba community should avoid attempting to park in and around the Robertson College-Community Center beginning the afternoon of Sunday, October 23 through Monday, October 24. Drivers traveling near the Catawba campus during the afternoon of Monday, October 24, may find a portion of W. Innes Street and some of the side streets off of it closed in advance of and during the Rally.
