The Catawba Community Music Program, an outreach of the Catawba College Music Department, is accepting enrollments for spring semester and a new instructor has joined the piano faculty.
Tina Brown will serve as a piano instructor, providing both private and class piano instruction to students of all ages in the community. She will offer a new course, Beginner Class Piano for Adults, for adults with little or no formal piano training. The class begins January 20 in the Williams Music Building at Catawba College.
Brown is an independent music teacher who has been teaching piano to children and adults for 19 years in Rockwell. She holds a bachelor's degree in music education with a piano concentration from Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer. After graduating, she taught elementary music in the Mooresville Graded School District for seven years.
She is also a member of the American Music Teachers Association and the North Carolina Music Teachers Association (Albemarle District Piano Contest Chair for nine years; State Piano Contest Director from 2000-2002; State Secretary since 2003). She has served as president of the Salisbury Music Club.
From 1983 to 2003, Brown served as organist and choir director at Organ Lutheran Church in Salisbury. In addition to teaching piano at her private studio and at the Catawba Community Music Program, she serves as an accompanist for the Catawba Singers and for the Catawba College Music Department.
