Catawba College's Theta Phi Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) education honor society installed new officers for the 2012-2013 year and inducted 25 new members in a ceremony held at 7:00 p.m. on April 3 in the Tom Smith Auditorium on campus. Faculty members from the Teacher Education Department played active roles in the ceremony.
Dr. James K. Stringfield opened the ceremony with welcoming remarks to the inductees, members, and invited guests. Dr. Lou Ann Kasias explained the components of the Kappa Delta Pi Creed and introduced speaker Dr. James Stringfield. Dr. Stringfield shared his experiences of a recent mission trip to Cape Town, South Africa, where he and his wife conducted Bible studies with children from squatter camps and related his experiences to the ideals of Kappa Delta Pi.
KDP officers inducted new members in a ritual ceremony. Dr. Rhonda Truitt, counselor for the chapter, presided over the meeting and was assisted by Dr. Bonita Bloodworth, Mrs. Amanda Bosch, Dr. Lou Ann Kasias, Dr. Cyndi Osterhus, and current officers Julie Gilley, president; Jessica Everett, vice president; Taylor Doss, secretary; Jessica Clark, treasurer; and Rachel Fries, historian.
New officers installed were Jamie Caputo and Elizabeth Davis, co-presidents; Suzanne Williams, vice president; Amelia Baity and Denise Grissom, co-secretaries; Whitney Corriher and Hannah Gagnier, co-treasurers; and Christina Faircloth, historian.

Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honor Society in Education, was founded March 8, 1911, at the University of Illinois. It was incorporated June 8, 1911. Organized to recognize excellence in education, Kappa Delta Pi invites members who exhibit the ideals of scholarship, high personal standards, and promise in teaching and allied professions. Catawba's Theta Phi Chapter was installed on February 28, 1958 and the chapter was reactivated in 1983.
