Catawba College's School of Evening and Graduate Studies announces the creation of its first-ever scholarship program. The Transfer Excellence Awards recognize outstanding transfer students who wish to earn their bachelor's degree from Catawba College. These awards are designed to provide financial assistance to students who have demonstrated excellence in prior college-level studies and who indicate a strong potential in their future career.
The scholarships were created to increase the ability of transfer students to access Catawba's already affordable evening program, while rewarding those who have exhibited excellence in their prior studies.
"While our program represents a great financial value for working adult students, it's important that we recognize prior achievement as well as provide increased opportunities for the best students in the region," says Dr. Jeff Bowe, Director of the School of Evening and Graduate Studies.
Students who are transferring at least 45 credit hours into Catawba's four-year degree program are eligible to apply for the scholarships. The grade point average achieved in these credit hours from N.C. Community Colleges is the primary consideration for awarding the Transfer Excellence Awards.
"We recognize that the community college path is a great option for many adults and that students coming from our community college partners are often well-prepared. We want to increase those partnerships because we all share the goal of improving the future options of adult students," notes Bowe.
Scholarships are available for students who start in both the spring and fall semesters, and the first scholarships will be awarded for transfer students entering in January 2016. Students can apply at www.catawba.edu/tea.
Catawba College partners with and serves students from at least seven area community colleges and is actively developing additional programs to support an integral part of the North Carolina higher education system, the community colleges.
