Catawba's prospective teacher's club, SNCAE, partnered with community businesses, service providers, and volunteers to host a carnival for special needs children, ages K-5 and younger, and their families on April 30.
SNCAE officers Courtney Foster, Sarah Cranfill, Carrie Loman, and Rhonda Elder applied for and received the CREATE Grant (Collaborative Research and Training Experience) from the National Educator's Association in order to fund this event.
CREATE Grants are chapter and/or statewide community service projects that positively promote the NEA Student Program through strategies designed to enhance public education, increase advocacy and outreach to communities, support young educators' involvement in the Association, and supports the development of innovative approaches to engagement.
Activities at the carnival included flying paper airplanes off of a fire truck and playing games with real firefighters, a library booth, sensory art, face painting, a photo booth, a bounce house and slide, and snacks.
SNCAE students thank SONIC of Salisbury, Rowan Public Library, Partner's in Learning Child Development Center, Bounce Right Inflatables, Rowan County Special Olympics, antique car owners, Salisbury Fire Station 3, and all the volunteers for providing their time, talents, and resources to this event.
