The Center for the Environment at Catawba College will offer a live, interactive webcast called "The 2 Percent Solution" on Wednesday, Jan. 30, in Room 300 of the Center for the Environment facility. Light refreshments will be served at 7:30 p.m., and the webcast will begin promptly at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The discussion will revolve around the question: "Can we as a nation get onto the path of cutting global warming pollution 2 percent a year for the next decade? If so, what would it take?"
The program will feature Stanford University climate scientist Stephen Schneider, sustainability expert Hunter Lovins and green jobs pioneer Van Jones as well as youth climate leaders. Audiences can participate with cell phone voting.
Webcast material indicates that holding global warming to 3-4 degrees Fahrenheit will require that developing countries cut about "2 percent of current emission levels a year for the next 40 years."
The webcast will be broadcast live from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. It is produced with the support of the National Wildlife Federation and hosted on Earth Day Network TV.
