An official from the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) will speak on “The Wild Side of Education” at the Center for the Environment at Catawba College on Wednesday, March 1.
Julian Keniry, senior director of NWF’s EcoLeaders and Higher Education, notes that her purpose is “to make education for a biologically diverse and joyful planet a top priority in the United States and beyond.” With the National Wildlife Federation and partners, she spearheaded numerous programs, including Campus Ecology, the Greenforce Initiative and EcoLeaders. She also co-sponsored a national youth clean energy partnership and campaign for 20 million global sustainability citizens.
Her first book, Ecodemia: Campus Environmental Stewardship at the Turn of the 21st Century, spawned many subsequent courses, projects and resources. Most recently, she directed and co-authored the Greenprint: A Plan to Prepare Community College Students for Careers in the Clean Economy and launched a National EcoCareers Conference Series.
Keniry earned undergraduate degrees from Agnes Scott College and a master’s degree in Environmental Science and Policy from Johns Hopkins University. She serves as a senior advisor to the American Association of Sustainability in Higher Education and is also on the board of the Institute for Conservation Leadership.
