Catawba College Choirs will present Our Song V at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 29. Under the Direction of Dr. Phillip E. Burgess, Associate Chair of the Music Department and Director of Choral/Vocal Studies, the Catawba Singers, PopAC and Chamber Choir will present a varied program of choral music.
The "Our Song" Concerts have become a tradition at Catawba College and are presented as the last concert of the academic year. The program is unique in nature because the students choose the selections to be performed on the concert. The compositions may be drawn from literature that the choirs have performed in the past, or they may be new compositions entirely.
This year's Our Song V features many American folk songs and spirituals as well as original pieces by Rene Clausen and Frank Ticheli. The PopAC will perform two arrangements by Catawba Senior Mikaela Brown. The Chamber Choir will perform a new work by Elaine Hagenberg, "A Farewell."
A major part of Our Song V is to highlight the students and their various talents. Several student soloists and instrumentalists will be featured on the program. Student conductors Gregory Florio, Duane Leatherberry, and Katie Zobel will each direct pieces they have taught and rehearsed.
Accompanists for the concert will be Mr. Jacob Hahn and Mrs. Susan Trivette.
The hour-long Our Song V concert will be presented in the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on the campus of Catawba College. The concert is free and open to the public.
