Catawba College will be one of the sites in Rowan County hosting painters who are participating in the two-day "Plein Air Paint Out" on August 14 and 15. Participating painters will spend two hours painting at their top choices among the county sites and then will display their paintings from the various venues during a reception and show at the F&M Trolley Barn between 7 and 9 p.m. August 15.

Hosting painters for Plein Air painting, or "painting in the open air," is yet another way that the College is pursuing several of the initiatives in its strategic plan including 1) to develop programs and experiences that enhance Catawba’s ties with the Salisbury community and other regional communities; and 2) to develop and implement policies and procedures regarding public art on campus.

 Ebersberger

Artist John Ebersberger of Annapolis, Md., will conduct three days of workshops for the "Plein Air Paint Out" participants on August, 11, 12 and 13. He will then serve as judge of the paintings created by these same participants on August 14 and 15. Artists will vie for a first place prize of $1,000, a second place prize of $500, a third place prize of $250, and honorable mentions in the competition.

The "Plein Air Paint Out" is open to aspiring young and interested adult painters. Information is available at www.pleinaircarolina.com, or sign up to participate in the competition at www.waterworks.org.
