In trying to read the tea-leaves of the 2008 elections, what can we expect on November 4th? Will it be more of the same (2000 and 2004) or something completely different? Who will show up? Where are the battleground states and races to watch? What will be the impact of November 4 on our political landscape? These and "other political ramblings" will form the topic of the first Catawba College Community Forum of the 2008-2009 academic year.
Dr. J. Michael Bitzer is a familiar figure to those who follow the local political scene. A faculty member at Catawba since 2002 and currently Associate Professor of Political Science & History, Dr. Bitzer has long been active in organizing candidate forums in the Salisbury area. His teaching interests focus on American politics, public administration, and public law. He earned his degrees from Erskine College (BA), Clemson University (MA), and The University of Georgia (Ph.D.).
Dr. Bitzer has served as a political analyst for several Charlotte television stations. His major research interests lie in Southern politics, U.S. campaigns, North Carolina elections, and the intersection of politics and popular culture. He has recently written a book chapter on Political Culture, Public Opinion and the American Dream as seen through the television show The Simpsons.
Join us on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in Tom Smith Auditorium of Ralph W. Ketner Hall on the campus of Catawba College for this timely foray into the upcoming campaign season. Admission, as always, is FREE.
