But those denominations added up to a whopping $1,290.80 donated by the Catawba College community to provide aid to victims of the December 26th Asian Tsunami disaster.
According to Jan Gillean, Catawba’s assistant dean for campus activities and programs, the funds will be sent to the Rotary Club of Salisbury to purchase one and a half Shelter Boxes for the victims of the tsunami disaster. Each Shelter Box, valued at $900, includes a 10-person tent, 10 sleeping bags, water purification equipment, a multi-fuel stove, cooking equipment, eating utensils, tools and other assorted survival items.
Catawba’s resident assistants collected money from students on their halls, while donation collection boxes were also placed in various offices around campus.
