More than 50 people participated in the first of the 2008 First-Year Retreats held June 19-21 at John's River Camp. There was a lot of information shared in response to questions, concerns and hopes and dreams between faculty, staff and incoming students of the College.

New students noted how special it was to be able to get to know other new students and also faculty and staff members who are available to them to assist as they make the transition to the college life. But the experience went far beyond this as students were challenged to think about what they can get out of the college experience and how their lives can benefit from it.

One participant captured this in the evaluation statement, "This retreat made you realize your potential and helped you evaluate yourself and how to become a better person as well as a college student." Another said, "The retreat was a great, refreshing and positive experience that helped me truly see Catawba is where I am meant to be." Another student summed it up by saying, "It is an amazing experience and I would love to do it again." T

Those members of the Catawba College Class of 2012 who did not attend the June retreat will have an opportunity to participate in a similar event in August. However, space is limited and the final retreat is near capacity, so quick action is needed to reserve a space.
