The Catawba College Student Government Association and friends and family of 14-year-old Josh Lippard of Salisbury are sponsoring a Port-A-Pit Chicken Fundraiser to raise funds for his medical treatment. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 pm. on Saturday, April 19 at North Hill Christian School at 2970 W. Innes Street.
According to SGA President Cecilia Runge, "the fundraiser is just one way that Catawba students are blessing the greater community." She noted that an earlier SGA-sponsored fundraiser for Lippard, held in conjunction with local restaurant, Five Guys Famous Burgers & Fries, raised $857 to help with Lippard's medical treatment.
Josh Lippard, a homeschooled student who also played basketball, football and baseball, was riding his dirt bike in his driveway two months ago when a large tree limb fell and hit him in the shoulder area, knocking him off his bike. The falling limb severed the brachial artery in his left arm which required extensive medical treatment to repair. Josh's parents, Keith and Cheryl Lippard of Salisbury, did not have health insurance, so fundraisers like the Port-A-Pit Chicken Sale have been staged in the weeks following his injury to raise monies to help cover the costs of his medical treatment.
The Lippards' church, Franklin Baptist Church has also been involved, allowing funds designated for Josh's treatment to be mailed there.
Tickets to the upcoming Port-A-Pit Chicken Fundraiser are available for purchase by contacting Catawba SGA President Cecilia Runge at cfrunge@catawba.edu or at Simply Good. Donation jars for Josh are set up at Simply Good, Rouser Automotive Parts, American Family Chiropractic, Cornerstone Baptist, the YMCA, Rowan Decorating and The Inn.
