Forty members of Catawba's incoming Class of 2017 participated in a Freshman Retreat held June 20-22 at Johns River Camp near Collettsville, N.C.

The retreat was an opportunity for the members of the Class of 2017 to meet and get to know their classmates and other members of Catawba's leadership team prior to the start of the academic year.

The retreat is designed to help freshmen gain a better understanding of the college experience and be successful. Members of the Student Retreat Leadership Corps also participated to answer questions the new students had from an upperclassman's point-of-view. And, students were given guidance in discovering who they are and how this understanding can lead to discussions about vocation and career.

Here's what some of the students who took part in the retreat had to say about their experience:

"It's a really good experience and every freshman should go."

"It is a tremendous experience!"

"You may be nervous because you don't know anyone, but you'll love everyone and Catawba by the time you leave."

"It's the best time of your life.   You will meet great people and life-time friends, so do it!"

"The retreat was a life-changing experience."

"Go on it because it is awesome!"

Other members of Catawba's Class of 2017 still have a chance to participate in a similar retreat August 14-16 before the start of orientation. Transportation, lodging, and meals are included.
