Have you ever wanted to befriend a clown? Find yourself a sidekick? Take part in something crazy before you die? Live vicariously and join in the fun and the chaos as Catawba College presents Wonder of the World, on stage at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, February 5-6, and at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, February 7-9, in Hedrick Little Theatre.
Wonder of the World, by 2007 Pulitzer Prize winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, follows the story of Cass as she leaves her husband and journeys to Niagara Falls in search of her destiny. As she runs away from her problems and encounters kooky characters that change her life in unexpected ways, Cass finds herself closer and closer to discovering who and what she is meant to be.
Directed by Catawba College Theatre Arts Chair and Professor, Dr. Woody Hood, this sometimes-twisted comedy will give you a fresh look at life, fate, and giant jars of peanut butter.
In addition to Hood, the production staff and crew include junior Patricia Adkins of Summerfield, stage manager; freshman Zackary Lynch of Selbyville, Del., assistant stage manager; freshman Ryan O’Hare of Milwaukee, Wis., assistant director; Theatre Arts Professor Christopher Zink, lighting design; senior Miranda Smith of Salisbury, assistant lighting design; Theatre Arts Professor David Pulliam, set design; senior Corey Burckhalter of Elma, N.Y., assistant set design; senior Jeremy Kinser of Matthews, costume design; senior Justin Johnson of Fuquay-Varina, makeup and hair design; and junior Thomas Marvin of Salisbury, sound design.
Cast members include sophomore Amber Hughes of Seattle, Wash., as Cass; junior Aaron Ganas of Milwaukee, Wis., as Kip; junior Devon Currie of Jamestown as Lois; senior Lydia Price of Boynton Beach, Fla., as Karla; junior Mike Matthias of Georgetown, Del., as Glen; junior Justin Lewis of Knoxville, Tenn., as Captain Mike; and senior Guerin Piercy of Swannanoa as Barbara, Pilot, three Waitresses, and Janie.
