Dr. Cyndi Osterhus, director of Catawba College's Shirley Peeler Ritchie Academy for Teaching and assistant professor of teacher education, recently made a presentation at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Regional Conference and Exposition held Oct. 11-12 in Richmond, Va.
Osterhus, a 1973 alumna of Catawba, presented a session entitled "Pi in the Sky." Her session connected NASA's Teacher in Space Launch from August 2007 with a historical geometric probability problem related to the conference theme on data and probability, "Exploring Mathematical Horizons."
Osterhus was one of 150 educators who attended the conference. Catawba Alumna Teresa Weddington '84, a teacher in the Rowan-Salisbury Schools, also attended.
