Blakley Leonard, a native of Abingdon, Va., who currently attends Catawba College as a Music Business major, will teach the eight-week course. The course will be offered from 6-6:50 p.m. on Tuesdays, beginning February 15, and is ideal for musicians looking to further their knowledge of music and discover ways in which they can utilize their talents through original works. Students may bring a guitar to class or use the piano to assist them, however, it is not required that they have playing knowledge for either instrument.
Leonard, along with his accompanist Zandi Watts, a Music Education major at Catawba, has perfected the art of captivating and paralyzing the soul with his soothing blend of acoustic, folk, and indie styles. He began his music career as a singer/songwriter in 2005, and has a fan base spread across the Piedmont region due to his ambrosial and superlative live performances.
In 2008, he placed second in the National Battle of the Bands Young Guns Competition. While continually writing new material, Leonard is in the process of recording his new E.P., which will be available later this year.
With a sharp tongue and the perfect amount of cynicism, Leonard uses his palette of emotions as the driving force and inspiration for his music. He has the ability to caress his listeners with undeniable, embracing truth.
