When Dr. Paul Austin published his recent book, Something For the Pain: One Doctor's Account of Life and Death in the ER, the Boston Globe commented, "Austin gives a stunning account of the chaos of the emergency room, the constant drama of urgent situations...." A native of High Point, Dr. Austin earned his BA and MD at the University of North Carolina before completing his residency in Emergency Medicine at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Austin will discuss his book and the life-and-death drama of emergency medicine at the next Catawba College Community Forum. "These are not Hollywood rewritten vignettes," Dr. Austin recently commented. "This is real life emergency medicine the way I have lived it."
