When Dr. Paul Austin published his recent book, Something For the Pain: One Doctor's Account of Life and Death in the ER, the Boston Globe commented, "Austin gives a stunning account of the chaos of the emergency room, the constant drama of urgent situations...."   Another reviewer described it as "...a relentlessly honest look at modern emergency medicine ...What makes this inspiring medical memoir stand out is …Austin's humanity" (Publisher's Weekly), and Library Journal called the book "A definite page-turner and a riveting debut."

A native of High Point, Dr. Austin earned his BA and MD at the University of North Carolina before completing his residency in Emergency Medicine at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.   Dr. Austin will discuss his book and the life-and-death drama of emergency medicine at the next Catawba College Community Forum.   "These are not Hollywood rewritten vignettes," Dr. Austin recently commented.   "This is real life emergency medicine the way I have lived it."

Come to the next Catawba College Community Forum on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in Tom Smith Auditorium of Ralph W. Ketner Hall to hear Dr. Austin's compelling story.   Admission, as always, is free.
