Catawba College’s English Department will sponsor a reading of fiction and poetry by Davidson College professor Alan Michael Parker at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 13 in the Tom Smith Auditorium of Ketner Hall.
Parker is the author of seven books, including the poetry collection Love Song with Motor Vehicles (BOA Editions, 2003), a novel, Cry Uncle (University Press of Mississippi, 2005), and the forthcoming anthology, The Imaginary Poets (Tupelo Press, 2005). He received his B.A. cum laude from Washington University, and his M.F.A. in Writing from Columbia University. He has lectured in Las Vegas, on the Menominee reservation, and at the Sorbonne, and his essays and reviews have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Book Review and Salon. He directs the program in creative writing at Davidson College and teaches in the Queens University low-residency M.F.A. program, where he is a core faculty member. His awards include a Pushcart Prize, the 2003 Lucille Medwick Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America, and residencies at the MacDowell Colony and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
The reading is free and open to the public with a book signing to follow it in the Ketner Hall Atrium.
