Dr. Joseph Oxendine, president of Catawba College, was surprised on his 81st birthday with cake and balloons provided by members of the senior class. Faculty, staff and students gathered to wish him well.
Oxendine, a 1952 alumnus of Catawba, joined Catawba as president in February 2011. He has previously served as Chancellor of UNC Pembroke between 1989 through 1999, and was Dean and Professor at Temple University in Philadelphia between 1957 and 1989.
