On Sunday, February 29 at 2:00 p.m. in Catawba College’s Florence Busby Theater, a cast of Catawba College and Wake Forest University students and faculty will present a reading of a new play Dix by Dr. Janice Moore Fuller. Fuller, Catawba’s writer-in-residence, wrote the play during residencies at Fundacion Valparaiso in Spain and Hawthornden Castle in Edinburgh in the summer of 2003.
In creating the play, Fuller weaves her own words with the poetry of North Carolina Poet Juanita Brown Tobin. Tobin’s book of poetry Ransom Street Quartet was inspired by her forty years of service as a psychiatric nurse at the historic Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh. A full production of Dix is scheduled to premiere in five performances at the Minneapolis Fringe Festival in August.
Although the reading is free and open to the public, because of the play’s setting and subject matter, it includes adult language and situations and is not recommended for children.
