Thanks to a Duck Draw Community Service Fundraiser sponsored by Catawba College’s Residence Life Staff some needy area families will be able to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal. The fundraiser, which kicked off October 26 and runs through November 12, allows participants to sponsor a duck for just $1.
On November 15, an array of plastic ducks will be launched in the fountain on campus and 10 ducks will be selected. The persons sponsoring those 10 ducks which area selected will receive a prize, ranging from a restaurant gift certificate to a DVD player.
According to Dan Sullivan, Catawba’s associate dean for housing and residential life, his staff is working with several county organizations to select families with the greatest need for a Thanksgiving meal. Those families will receive meal packages complete with a turkey, dressing, a turkey pan, vegetables, bread, and a dessert. Sullivan says the goal of the project is to raise enough money to feed at least 50 families.
