Piedmont High School was the winner of the Catawba Pride Marching Band Classic cup at the inaugural event held at Catawba College on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Shuford Stadium. The event drew high school marching bands from surrounding counties and included an exhibition from the Catawba Pride Marching Band, under the direction of Mr. Jay Meachum.
Trailing Piedmont High School in the overall competition was Jay M. Robinson High School, the reigning champion of the event (formerly the Lord Salisbury Marching Band Classic) for the past two years.
Preliminary Class winners were:

- 1st Place in Class 1A - Independence HS ;
- 1st Place in Class 2A – Central Cabarrus HS ;
- 1st Place in Class 3A - Jay M. Robinson HS ;
- 1st Place in Class 4A – Piedmont HS
Bands participating for the first time in the competition included Pisgah HS, North Davidson HS, A.L. Brown HS, and West Davidson HS.
