Catawba College, along with the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce and The Salisbury Post, will host two election forums on campus during October which are free and open to members of the Salisbury-Rowan Community. BothEvents will be held in Hedrick Little Theatre in the Robertson College-Community Center, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and concluding by 8:00 p.m. Both forums will be videotaped for rebroadcast by Time Warner Cable prior to the November election.
In the first, slated for Tuesday, October 12, candidates for the Board of Education will share their views as they respond to questions posed by panelists from The Salisbury Post, the Salisbury-Rowan Human Relations Council, and the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, with additional questions provided by readers of The Salisbury Post. Candidates will be allowed two minutes each to answer questions.
Candidates for the Board of Education run for an area seat but are elected countywide. Candidates include Michael Adkins, James Emerson and Ralph Walton for the East seat; Brendan Davidson and Bryce Beard for the Salisbury seat; and Robert Cooper and Linda Freeze for the newly created Southeast seat.
The second election forum, slated for Tuesday, October 19, features four candidates for two available seats on the Rowan County Board of Commissioners. They will present their views on current policies and future directions as Rowan County strives to adapt to urbanization and a host of other challenges, including environmental concerns and the growing tax burden.
Candidates Leda Belk, Arnold Chamberlain, Tina Hall, and Jim Sides have all agreed to participate in this Oct. 19 debate which will be taped for re-broadcast by Time-Warner Cable. Questions for the candidates will again be posed by the aforementioned panelists and again, candidates will have two minutes each to respond to the questions.
