Attend a free choral concert on Sunday, February 28th and take a musical journey, as student artists at Catawba offer "Journeys ... A Musical Exploration of the Human Experience." The hour-long concert begins at 4 p.m. in the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel and will explore music and texts that closely mirror those of the human experience along the pathway of life.
Catawba's choral program is under the direction of Dr. Phillip E. Burgess, Assistant Professor of Music, and features the 60-voice ensemble, the Catawba Singers. Music of Randall Thompson, Molly Ijames and Mack Wilberg will be offered, along with music of Finnish composer and 1987 Catawba alumna Pauliina Isomäki. Isomäki recently spent a week at Catawba as a guest composer in residence, lecturing, teaching and coaching the students and faculty. Her visit culminated in a concert of her music.
Catawba's Chamber Choir will present the lovely "Pasture" by Z. Randall Stroope, as well as a jazzy rendition of "Home on the Range" by Mark Hayes. The PopAC will present music by Eric Clapton, the Turtles, and Carly Simon. Pre-concert music will be presented by members of Catawba's Popular Music program and will feature the music of "Journey." Catawba's Ensembles are accompanied by Mr. Jacob Hahn, and Mrs. Susan Trivette.
This choral concert, one of two to be offered during the 2016 spring semester, is free and open to the public.
