The final Tuesday Music 515 of the spring semester at Catawba College will feature the Catawba Brass Ensemble and the College’s Brass Choir in a program of sacred and secular music.   The performance, which is free and open to the public, will be at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, in the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on campus.

Selections will include such favorites as “Amazing Grace”, “All Creatures of Our God and King”,   Ralph Vaughn-Williams’ “English Folk Song Suite”, a Scott Joplin Rag , and music for double brass quartet by Gabrieli.

The Catawba Brass Ensemble was founded by the late Dr. James Poolos, trombonist, and former chair of the Catawba College Music Department.   The Catawba Brass have performed widely in the area, often for the Tuesday 515 Series, for Catawba’s Thanksgiving, Baccalaureate and Commencement Programs, and for the College’s Annual Service of Lessons and Carols every year since   1991.

The Tuesday Music 515 Series was founded several years ago by Dr. Legare McIntosh, former chair of the Catawba Music Department.   It was conceived as a Concert Series to spotlight area musicians in brief monthly programs on Tuesday afternoons after the workday ends, beginning at 5:15 p.m. and lasting for approximately 30 minutes.   The Music Department is continuing its sponsorship of the program series, with Rosemary Kinard as its coordinator.
