In honor of retiring director and assistant professor of music, Rosemary C. Kinard, the Catawba Chorale and Camerata will join with the Catawba Singers   in a presentation of some of Mrs. Kinard's favorite choral compositions in a 4 p.m. concert on Sunday, April 15th. The St. John's Men's Chorus will also perform as special guests at the free performance to be held in Catawba College's Omwake-Dearborn Chapel.

This performance will also feature soloists and small ensembles in a program of music for choirs with organ, piano, brass, tympani, and string quartet.   Prelude selections will be performed by the Catawba Handbell Ensemble, directed by Karl Kinard.

The Catawba Handbells is composed of Catawba faculty, staff, and students, plus community members. They are Laura Bame, Joyce Caddell, Kathryn Earl Etters, Lauren Flynn, Jared Gordon, Jayne Hubbard, Brian Messenger, Anna McKinzie, Janet Rash, Sherri Shauni, Alex Will, and Jean Wurster

The groups will perform such favorites as the monumental "Hallelujah" from The Mount of Olives by Beethoven;   Mozart's beloved "Ave Verum;"   Brahms' "How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place" from his German Requiem; "Mendelssohn's "He, Watching Over Israel" from Elijah; along with works by Bach, Vaughan-Williams, Handel, Rene Clausen, and John Rutter.   Soloists for the performance are Ralph Hair, Patsy Parnell, and Norman Sloop.

Membership of the Chorale is drawn from Catawba's student body, members of the college's faculty and staff, and adults from the surrounding area. The Catawba Singers is a select vocal chamber ensemble whose members are chosen by audition. The St. John's Men's Chorus is a community outreach ensemble sponsored by St. John's Lutheran Church, and its members are from Salisbury and the Rowan County area. Rosemary C. Kinard, Assistant Professor of Music, is director of all the ensembles. Accompanist for the Chorale, Camerata, and the Men's Chorus is Janie R. Rollins.   Accompanist for the Singers is Tina Brown.
