Catawba College's Writer in Residence Dr. Janice Moore Fuller and Catawba Theatre Arts Associate Professor Dr. Elizabeth Homan have been awarded a residency at the Ragdale Foundation in July and August of this summer.
This honor is bestowed upon Drs. Fuller and Homan in recognition of their outstanding work. During the residency, the two will be working on their second collaboration together: a stage adaptation of William Faulkner's novel, As I Lay Dying.
Ragdale is a nonprofit, internationally acclaimed artists' community located thirty miles north of Chicago in Lake Forest, Illinois and acceptance to the community is highly competitive. Recipients are chosen through an application process, with primary emphasis placed on anonymous evaluation of the applicants' work samples by professionals in each genre.
Ragdale is located on the grounds of architect Howard Van Doren Shaw's Arts and Crafts style home, which was built in 1897. The foundation was established in 1976 to provide peaceful, uninterrupted time for working artists. The Ragdale experience includes the exquisite natural surroundings of meadow and prairie that enhance Ragdale's beauty and seclusion.
Each year, Ragdale provides residencies for nearly 200 emerging and established artists, writers and composers from all over the world. In addition, Ragdale provides workshops and programs to those in the surrounding communities.
Ragdale is subsidized by the Foundation and its supporters, including Aon, The Boeing Company, Brunswick Foundation, the City of Lake Forest, the George Debatz Trust for the Arts, Friends of Ragdale, Haffner Foundation, Illinois Arts Council, J.M.
