A new debut single, “Hate That I Love You,” released Sept. 2 features the work of two Catawba College students, both seniors.
Darryl Bell of Shelby is the solo artist on the single, while Chris Averill of Bessemer City is the producer and the musician behind the scenes.
Chris Averill is a senior Music Business and Popular Music double major with a minor in Business Administration who hails from Bessemer City, N.C. He’s been producing music for seven years and began working for his first record label at age 18. He has worked on numerous projects with and for the number one jazz artist Gabriel Bello. He says he’s also been blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Grammy-Award winning artists and producers, including Dave Brainard and Glenn Tabor, and to work in world famous recording studios where artists such as Taylor Swift, Martina McBride, Hunter Hayes, Keith Urban, Amy Grant, One Republic, Faith Hill, and Relient K have produced their records.
Darryl Bell is a senior Popular Music major from Shelby, N.C. He’s had the opportunity to perform with various artists across the East Coast. In addition, he works under the direction of Dennis Reed, Jr. as the director of Gospel Choir and the Urban’ Soul Vernacular. His talents continually land him praise in the vocal and background vocal categories. Distinctively, Darryl Bell began songwriting at age 11. It is his own unique personal experiences that lead to the initiation of his first single titled, “Hate That I Love You.”
