Two of Catawba College’s creative writing students from Salisbury are among four N.C. college students honored in the Charlotte Writers’ Club’s annual Anthony Abbott Poetry Award for undergraduates.
Senior Nneka Campbell won first place (and $150) in the contest for her poem, “Grandfather’s Hands.” Sophomore Kelly Poole is one of three students who placed in the contest (and was awarded $50) for her poem “Our Home.” Both students have been invited to read at the Charlotte Writers’ Club’s April meeting.
Alan Michael Parker, writer-in-residence at Davidson College, judged the contest. The other student winners attend Queens University and Montreat College.
