Havenstein
Catawba College will offer area residents a rare opportunity to enjoy the virtuosity of Argentinian guitarist Ricardo Havenstein when he performs in a special concert that is free and open to the public at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 30 in the Florence Busby Corriher Theatre on campus.
Havenstein has been described as a "virtuoso of the guitar, of fine sensibility and remarkable talent ... proves to have one of the most perfect techniques of his generation." He debuted as soloist on the main stage of the Libertador Theater in Córdoba, Spain, before moving to Germany to enter the Master Class under the renowned Eliot Fisk. After graduation, he settled in Munich and began intensive artistic activity throughout Europe.
His concert tours have taken him to Spain, Hungary, Italy, Austria and Denmark to perform at such venues as the Beethovenhalle in Bonn, the Academy of Arts in Berlin, and the Gasteig in Munich. Today, he lives with his horses on a farm in Argentina, where he spends his free time between concert tours. According to Havenstein, relaxing in the unspoiled countryside helps renew his creative powers and inspires fresh interpretations.
Singer songwriter Phil Busby will open the April 30th show with selections from his recent debut CD. One of the songs he will perform is dedicated to his grandmother, Florence Busby Corriher, for whom the theatre where he and Havenstein will perform is named.
