Catawba's Community Music Program is the only program in the area that offers group classes for piano. It does this utilizing a keyboard lab of 16 Yamaha state of the art keyboards.

Group classes in piano are a fairly new and inventive way of teaching, and few people understand the value in learning in a group setting. Group classes provide an interactive environment with other beginners, and this environment builds confidence, basic timing, and a sense of learning together. Critical listening skills are built as well as the ability to learn how to comment to others about the strong and weak points of a performance. Students truly develop a listening ear, and a caring heart. Lastly, more consistent practice skills and attitudes develop because students do not want to let their other class members down.

Catawba College's Community Music Program offers group piano lessons for children, adults, and senior citizens. This fall semester, a senior citizen group class, called "I've Always Wanted to Play," will be offered on Tuesdays between 1:30-2:20 p.m. Adults will be given the same opportunity on Monday evenings at either 6:00 p.m. or 6:50 p.m. with a special offering. Sign-up for 10 classes out of the 15 classes offered, which will allow the working adults flexibility as they pursue a fun and musically educational experience.

Beginning children can take classes on Mondays between 3:00-3:50 p.m. or on Tuesdays between 4:00-4:50 p.m. Even the youngest beginners (age 4 and 5) can take pre-piano on Mondays from 5:30-6:00 p.m.
