Catawba’s new minor in Nutrition addresses the growing need for health professionals who are well-versed in the science related to diet and nutrition. You’ll learn the principles of good nutrition, daily dietary needs, food preparation best practices, the science of essential nutrients, and the effects of nutritional deficiencies in individuals and in society.

Experience local and global nutrition issues first-hand through travel study experiences. Learn how cultural, economic, and social determinants affect the dietary and nutritional needs of certain populations while participating in addressing hunger and malnutrition.
Undergraduate Research
Undergraduate Research
Conduct and present your own research on nutrition and how it relates to your major in other disciplines by doing an Independent Study. Present your work at the State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium, North Carolina Academy of Science, Association of Southeastern Biologists, Carolinas Society of Toxicology & Chemistry, and American Chemical Society. The James M. Beard Student Science Travel Award can help you pay for travel expenses related to your research.
