Philosophy is critical thinking, which is elemental in business, governance, law, environmental sciences, non-profit work, design, art-making, and health sciences.
Studying philosophy helps to develop analytical and evaluative thinking, speaking, and writing skills, so that you can tackle problems by breaking them into their composite parts and make new or refined connections between these elements and compare benefits and burdens of various solutions, as well as to understand the criteria by which you or others make sound judgments. Further, philosophy helps students to envision a world they would like to be part of and persuade others in efforts to accomplish this world. The type of philosophy called ethics—which studies what is right or wrong—also directly applies to your professional life, regardless of what profession you seek.

Catawba College has received a $500,000 grant from the Lilly Endowment Inc. The grant will fund the Catawba Clergy Network’s continued efforts to enrich the lives of clergy and help them thrive in their service.
Catawba College is bringing Kate Bowler, bestselling author, to campus as part of their Clergy Days programming on October 26th. Bowler will provide the keynote address at 11 am in the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on Catawba’s campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Catawba College held its annual Awards Convocation on Thursday, April 20 in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel. Dr. Constance Rogers-Lowery, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, thanked all of the award recipients who have demonstrated the qualities upon which Catawba College was founded: scholarship, character, culture, and service.
