This course will introduce students to leisure as an important aspect of well being. Types of leisure and settings of leisure will be discussed. Leisure education will also be explored for individuals across the lifespan to promote health and increase quality of life.

INTERVENTIONS AND TECHNIQUES FOR PHYSICAL HEALTH CONDITIONS IN RECREATIONAL THERAPY PRACTICE
This course is designed as an experiential class in implementing recreational therapy interventions and techniques for physical health conditions. It will focus on the foundational knowledge of leading groups, while emphasizing group dynamics, initiatives, adaptation, therapeutic communication, and behavior management in developing functional interventions for physical health conditions. Interventions and facilitation techniques will address the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional strengths and needs of clients with physical health conditions served by recreational therapists. CLINICAL EXPERIENCE IN RECREATIONAL THERAPY
The aim of clinical experience is to provide future recreational therapists with opportunities to gain skills and abilities possible only outside classroom walls. The clinical experience will allow students to engage with disability and aging populations under the supervision of a trained, allied health professional. Prerequisite: junior standing.

This course presents the foundation for understanding the contemporary healthcare system, as well as developing systematic program design, implementation, and management of recreational therapy services. Students will achieve a comprehensive understanding of the insurance and reimbursement systems; relevant guidelines and standards related to healthcare organizations; the process of program development, and program management principles. This course is designed to assist students in preparing for their recreational therapy internship, NCTRC certification exam, and future employment opportunities. This course should be taken one or two semesters prior to starting internship. Prerequisite: junior standing.

INTERNSHIP IN RECREATIONAL THERAPY
The aim of this course is to give students practical experience providing recreational therapy services to individuals with disabilities and chronic illnesses. Assignments will cover all NCTRC Job Task Domains required for competency as an entry level recreational therapist.

CAPSTONE FIELDWORK IN RECREATIONAL THERAPY PRACTICE
This course is designed to have students fully demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to implement the APIED Process with clients with disabilities and chronic illnesses. The course will also allow students to be evaluated on their skills and abilities as an entry level recreational therapist by both academic faculty and their internship supervisor. Prerequisite: junior standing. Corequisite: RTX 4450.
