I greatly enjoy the tremendous camaraderie among faculty and staff in my department but also the school as a whole.”
Andrew Jacobson is the Assistant Professor of GIS and Conservation within the Environment & Sustainability department. He leads the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) & Technology Minor which consists of courses covering topics on GIS, spatial analysis, GPS technologies and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs - commonly known as drones). He also leads the internship program with the US Forest Service in North Carolina.
When asked what he loves about Catawba, he said, “I really enjoy several aspects of Catawba College. I greatly appreciate the work that the Center for the Environment does and its leadership in helping Catawba become a truly sustainable college and regional leader. I enjoy the Catawba ecological preserve as a source of mental renewal and recreation, but also as a place to conduct ecological studies.”
When asked what made him choose Catawba, he said, “The strong environmental program and history at Catawba. I was drawn to the Center for the Environment, the organization as well as the building itself, nestled in the Ecological Preserve.”
“One of my greatest achievements at Catawba is starting the drone program and co-hosting a Shark Tank-style event for drone-related business ideas.”
