...Catawba will continue to surprise you and open doors that you never thought possible. I’m so happy to be back, and I hope that I can make students here feel even a glimmer of the amount of love and support that I received during my unforgettable four years.

Hannah is one of two Sustainability Specialists at Catawba. Her role is to focus on waste and recycling across campus. She will be working on finding new initiatives and practices to help identify more opportunities to recycle, reduce food waste, and reduce the amount of garbage that is taken to the landfill.

Hannah said, “I am so excited to take on this huge endeavor, and I welcome anyone who has ideas they would like to share on this topic to shoot me an email, call me, or just come find me on campus so that we can work together to continue to make Catawba College the place to be!”

When asked what made her choose Catawba, Hannah said, “As a graduate of Catawba College, I have always felt very at-home here. I studied music during my four years here, but I quickly learned my senior year during Dr. Joe Poston’s Ornithology class that I had a strong passion for birds, nature, and the environment as a whole. I was working as a paralegal in downtown Salisbury when I was told of an opening for the Center for the Environment’s new Sustainability Specialist position. I figured, why not give it a shot? Since being very active in my local Audubon Chapter, I have learned many things regarding conservation, advocacy, and sustainability, and I truly believe that my experience with my chapter has opened many doors for both my personal and professional life.”

“One thing led to another, and here I am, back at home! I am so thankful for the opportunity to be back at Catawba College, and I cannot wait to help make a difference here on campus.”

One of Hannah’s favorite things about Catawba College is the size. “I never imagined that when I went to college the faculty and staff would actually know me by name. I never imagined that I would make lasting friendships with my professors or start a brand-new career; but Catawba is like that.”
