Harmony Speer is a senior here at Catawba. She is double majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Economics and Sociology. “I am completing two majors to earn my bachelor's degree. My Business Administration classes have gone through introductory courses in marketing, accounting, economics, business law, and management. This major gives you a well-rounded perspective for different disciplines in business,” said Harmony.

She added, “The professors are very insightful and will always help you if you are struggling. This major also allows you to concentrate in one of these disciplines which gives you to ability to dive deeper into a subject that you are interested in. When looking at colleges I knew I would major in business but I never knew which part of business I liked the best so this major was really beneficial to me because of its structure to go through multiple areas of business.”

Harmony’s second major is Sociology. “During my first two years at Catawba, I focused on completing my general education requirements which involve Spanish, History, and Science which helps people who do not know their exact interest when coming to college. During these courses I realized I liked Sociology as much as I liked business. I took multiple classes in this field before deciding to declare a major in it. The professors in the Sociology department are amazing and this discipline caused me to learn things I would have never paid attention to otherwise.”

Harmony first heard about Catawba through a family friend. “When applying for colleges, I heard from a family friend that Catawba was an amazing school which led me to apply. When I got all my acceptance letters, my mom and I went through the stack and chose three colleges to tour. When arriving at Catawba to tour the campus, it felt like home.”

When asked what she likes about Catawba, she said, “The smaller class sizes allow me to know my professors better and the smaller campus gives you that family feeling. Catawba College shows they care with everyone receiving financial aid and including students in many decisions on campus. The campus is also beautiful. The trees, outside sitting, and other activities just sealed the deal for me.”
