I’m grateful to have so much support from so many people at Catawba.

Kylie Price is an upcoming sophomore at Catawba College. She is a Business Administration major with a double concentration in both Marketing and Accounting and a minor in Humanities. She is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), a Resident Advisor, and works as an Office Assistant for Admissions Operations.

Although Kylie is still relatively new in her journey at Catawba, she has already faced a major obstacle that would throw anyone off course.

“My first year at Catawba had a lot of ups and downs, but the biggest obstacle I had to face was during the fall semester right before finals week. I received a call from my older sister while at work in the admissions office. She told me that my grandmother whom we called nanny had passed away,” Kylie said.

“My nanny had always been one of my biggest supporters and a huge inspiration in my life and the pain of losing her was unbearable, especially since I was not able to be home with my family at the time. I wanted to go home as soon as I could, but I knew I had finals the next week. I told myself that I would study extremely hard to pass my exams in her honor,” she added.

But Kylie was not alone in her pain.

“During this difficult time, everyone in the admissions office, especially my amazing boss Holly Bautista, was extremely helpful and always made sure I was okay. I’m forever grateful to have them there for me each day as I could barely bring myself to get out of bed to go about my day,” she said.

Today, Kylie understandably still struggles with her Nanny’s passing and life’s other hardships but is learning how to face these obstacles head on.
