Habitat for Humanity

Construction Site: ages 18 and older [due to OSHA Restrictions]; volunteer once or multiple times

ReStore Resale Shop: ages 14 and older; volunteer on a weekly basis for a four hour shift, either 9:00am until 1:00pm, or 1:00pm to 5:00pm

Partners in Learning

Volunteers sought to landscape, paint classrooms, and generally organize their Novant location. During the summer, they seek volunteers for their Summer Enrichment Program where you would engage one on one with students while assisting teachers in helping each student reach his/her personal goals and having a fantastic summer exploring, learning, and making friendships.

Rowan Helping Ministries

Shelter and Jeannie's Kitchen:

1. Every Monday for Jeannie's Kitchen [9:30am-1:30pm];

2. Every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month for Jeannie's Kitchen [9:30am-1:30pm];

3. Breakfast Dates are available. [5:15am-7:30am]

4. Shelter Reception Desk: Monday-Friday [8am-11am,11am-2pm, 2pm-5pm]

 

Crisis Assistance Network

  1. Reception Desk: Welcome clients and provide staff support as clients sign in for services
  2. Interviewer: Interview clients who need assistance with basic necessities such as rent, utilities, or medicine;
  3. Clothing Center: Work one on one with families as you assist them with clothing selections. Sort and set up clothing for display;
  4. Food Pantry: Fight hunger in Rowan County by helping those who need groceries for clients who come in requesting food;
  5. Loading Dock: Unloading deliveries of food and clothes

Saving Grace Therapeutic Programs

Volunteers are needed for a variety of activities: fundraisers and special events, therapeutic riding lessons, general farm maintenance, or office assistance. Those that want to side-walk or lead horses in riding lessons are asked to complete an application available on their website and attend volunteer training. No experience is necessary as you will be thoroughly trained.

American Red Cross

Blood Drives: Organize a blood drive, recruit donors, etc. Contact volunteer specialists in your area; Catawba College resides in Rowan County which falls under the Southern Piedmont of the North Carolina regional office

Communities in Schools

Seeks mentors and tutors in the Rowan-Salisbury School System to commit for one school year and anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour per week. All volunteers will undergo a background check and attend at least one training session.

Family Crisis Council

Need volunteers to work directly with clients especially as Volunteer Victim Advocates to assist the Hospital Accompaniment team and Volunteer Maintenance, but also as special event support, administrative support, and shelter upkeep. Applications are available at their website.

Salisbury Symphony

Need volunteers to usher at concerts hosted on campus (helping patrons to their seats, passing out programs and collecting tickets at the doors).

Society of St. Andrew

Need people to glean in finished fields donated by farmers to feed the hungry in their communities; volunteers would assist in a regional area of North Carolina.

Rowan County YMCA - J.F. Hurley Branch

Volunteers sought for a variety of opportunities: mentoring, coaching a Youth Sports Team, serving as a front desk greeter, being a bus driver for special events or summer camp field trips, teaching swim lessons, serving as an administrator or clerical assistant, etc. You may find a volunteer application on the Rowan County YMCA website.

Novant Rowan Regional Medical Center

Volunteers sought for a variety of opportunities including: visiting patients to ask about non-medical needs and offer emotional support, serving at reception desks and information centers, giving patients and visitors directions and helping them find their way, transporting patients throughout the hospital, assisting in the hospital gift shop. No experience is necessary and all new volunteers attend an orientation class and receive training. NOTE: due to COVID,  Novant may not be seeking volunteers.

Piedmont Players Theater

Volunteers sought in a variety of roles including but not limited to: house managers, house ushers, stage managers and assistant stage managers, costumers, set constructors, prop makers, running crew, and lights and sound. Volunteer applications  are on their website.
