  During my time at Catawba, I've witnessed some pretty seismic changes. Studying performing arts during a pandemic has been very difficult at times, in aspects both physical and emotional. I've watched many of my friends and performing colleagues come and go, and accommodated a roller coaster of classroom and performance situations that I thought I'd never have to face. It is because of these changing situations, however, I've also learned a variety of skills that I would not have otherwise pursued, such as audio engineering, both live and in the studio, a field in which I find great fulfillment. In short, I believe my experience has been more difficult than I could have imagined in ways that I could have imagined, all of which have shaped me for the better.

• As someone born and raised in Salisbury, Catawba was an obvious choice given its proximity. Before I even applied, I knew that I wanted to major in Accounting and work in the financial sector. As I entered into my second year at Catawba, though, I realized that accounting was not the choice for me. After some introspection I found a new path, and thanks to the support of my classmates and professors, I was able to make the transition to Math Education (math major, secondary education minor). Equipped with this degree, as well as the field experience that Catawba has provided—such as being a student teacher, tutor, teaching fellow, and supplemental instructor—I am confidant that I am well-prepared for my future profession. Outside of the degree, Catawba is a great place to make connections. Whether from playing chess with a professor or traveling to a conference with a classmate, I have formed bonds that will last for many years to come. Catawba has been a time of tremendous growth and given me many fond memories.

• During my graduate studies at Catawba College the involvement of my professors in my studies stood out to me the most. Dr. Betters truly cares about his students and their success. He was willing to work around my schedule and helped me be successful in the program even though I live over an hour from campus. Dr. Brejcha pushes students to reach their true potential and has assisted me when I had trouble. Dr. Brejcha assisted my fellow graduate students and me to understand counseling techniques in action and gave important feedback to proliferate our success. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is led by fantastic professors that truly wish to help their students grow and learn.
