Science & Math Center (SMART)
The Science and Mathematics Academic Resource Center (SMART) is committed to offering excellent tutorial services designed to help you understand concepts in math and science.
The welcoming environment will provide students a caring, supportive and encouraging academic presence while tackling the development of math and science skills. The open work area gives students the ability to drop-in and work on math assignments, receive peer tutoring, and study for exams. This can be completed independently or in small groups.
No appointments needed! The Drop-In Rooms can get busy, however, so being prepared with your questions in advance will save you time.
While tutors are a great academic resource, they are not able to act as a replacement to lecture or to complete the work for the tutees. Please do not expect the center to provide quick answers for the purpose of completing homework assignments, or help you cram all of the material the night before the exam. This expectation does you a disservice.
- Ask questions to guide you through the homework problems or provide a similar problem for you to work on together.
- Review concepts and give explanations of concepts that you find confusing or have difficulty understanding.
- Provide practice problems similar to problems you may see on your exams, but tutors do not give out old exams or practice tests without consent of the instructor.
