Catawba College Students Attend Digital Detox Day

Published:
First-year students at Catawba enrolled in the Take Control of Your Digital Life seminar taught by Amanda Bosch, Director of Digital Pedagogy and Scholarship, participated in a Digital Detox Day at Morrow Mountain State Park.

Students were challenged to complete a digital detox involving removing themselves from their phones and any interactive devices for the day to realize the value of being intentional and focused on the moment without the need to document it with their phone or post about it on social media.

Their activities included a 1-mile hike around the Mountain Loop trail at the top of Morrow Mountain, a cookout, and an afternoon canoeing on the Yadkin River. Students completed a reflection on the event as they continued to study their digital footprint and the impact of digital devices and technologies on their daily lives before moving into the final phase of the course, which focuses on Digital Literacy and Critical Thinking.

The Catawba students who attended include Luca Accomando, Paxton Broadway, Tyler Creel, Tanner Frye, Da’Rein Glover, Kier McKnight, Ryan Masterton, Michael, Magana Flores, Michael Martinez Oliva, Jennifer Mosqueda-Salazar, Ester Reyes, Kayla Rich, Wade Robins, and Tristan Williams.
