Catawba College Students Visit Emerging NC Business

In October, a group of Catawba College students visited Lucid Bots in North Charlotte as part of their First-Year Seminar (FYS) taught by Dr. Andrew Jacobson, Assistant Professor of GIS and Conservation.

Lucid Bots is an emerging business started by Andrew Ashur who is listed by Forbes as a “30 under 30.” Ashur led students through the manufacturing facility and demonstrated the cleaning drone.

The company makes robots for labor-intensive tasks. It is principally known for building an unmanned aerial vehicle (otherwise known as a drone) that cleans buildings and windows. The sprayer drone is connected by a hose to the ground and sucks up water, and chemicals if desired, and sprays it at variable pressures to clean windows, walls, or other vertical surfaces.

The FYS class visited Lucid Bots in conjunction with two other courses, Drone Pilot Training and Intro to Entrepreneurship, led by Jacobson and Dr. Jeremiah Nelson, Assistant Professor of Management and Director of the BBA and MBA programs, respectively.
