Tonya Kepley '00 of Mount Ulla, a teacher at Enochville Elementary School, has been awarded the highest honor for math and science teachers in the nation. She received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, administered by the National Science Foundation on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Kepley won $10,000 and a March 2-5 trip to Washington, D.C., to accept the award.

Kepley has taught at Enochville Elementary for five years and at China Grove Elementary for eight years before that.
